Top to Bottom

Pirates are a current theme around the world and Nevis is no different, but our pirates are a bit more fun and exciting, as well as tied in with our past.

Captain Bath Sharpe was one of our fisrt, being sent from Nevis as a Privateer with 7 ships to harass the Spanish in Central America. He lost the ships, hiked across the Honduras, stold Spanish ships in the Pacific and then raided coastal towns down around South America to return to Nevis with just one ship, emeralds, and a cocker spaniel after 3 years!

Captain Kidd got his first "letter of marquee" for the Governor of the Leeward Islands, stationed on Nevis. Kidd would actually steal French ships from St. Kitts and race them over to Nevis where he would sell the cargo. The proceeds were actually sent to fund the Trinity Church in New York, Robin Hood move over! Kidd only was ever accused of killing one person, a member of his own crew that he hit over the head with a bucket. He also got his crew to moon the British Navy and, that combined with the killing got him hung as a pirate.

It is because of this pirate history, and that many of our guests dress and look like pirates that Nevis will be having a Pirate Festival this Fall (It will actuall be twice as we like to party, October 25th-31st and November 22nd-28th). There will be "P" parties, Crew Carousals, Roaring Rum Mixers and hidden treasure chests, plus several events for charity. All the prizes are locally made by hand and unique.
